Category Manager Sourcing & Contracting

Defines and implements the category’s European sourcing & contracting strategy and as such contributes to the sourcing & contracting departmental strategy in order to safeguard operations (e.g. transport, warehousing capacities) with regards to agreed service levels (safety, quality, delivery reliability and security of supply) and manages the spend and performance of the category.
Capture synergies and best practises in the global Sourcing & Contracting organisation of the SBU.


Job Purpose & Responsibilities

  • The scope of responsibility covers all European logistical services (within the specific category) for Solids, from production plants as well as from a network of local warehouses / terminals and import hubs / storage locations.
  • Define and implement the category’s sourcing and contracting strategy.
  • Define and develop strategic and sustainable partnerships with suppliers.
  • Performance management of LSP’s on cost, service level and SHE.
  • Creation and maintaining of sustainable market knowledge and supplier relation, resulting in a profound sourcing strategy, with integral supply chain solutions against the best available commercial conditions.
  • Align Sourcing & Contracting policies and capture best practises with the Global Sourcing & Optimization department.
  • Act as Account Manager for top LSP per category (discussion on CEO/LSP board level).
  • Overall responsible for reliability, security of supply, performance and spend of the category.
  • Overall responsible for QESH/SHE awareness and performance of the category.
  • Continuous improvement of cost and purchase processes.
  • Responsible for people management and development of the team, e.g. performance management (appraisals), engagement, support job rotation, competency development, coaching.



  • More than 8 years commercial working experience in international business environment.
  • More than 5 years supply chain and/or business experience.
  • Excellent in depth knowledge of the purchase to pay (PtP) process and relevant QESH product and business aspects.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience.
  • Good knowledge of the polymer business and processes: prospect to order (PTO), demand chain planning (DCP) and order to cash (OTC) processes.
  • Good knowledge of legal, fiscal requirements and EHS requirements.
  • Good financial knowledge (VBBS, IFRS, internal and external cost structures).
  • Good people management / coaching skills.
  • Excellent relationship builder.
  • Multi-cultural awareness.
